Legacy BioSum Downloads (for upgrading old projects only)

These are old and no longer supported versions of BioSum. They are provided here for two reasons: 1) Backward compatibility with Suppose for those still using that FVS interface and 2) to enable migration of legacy projects to the current version of BioSum that is supported, i.e., 5.10.1. 5.8.10 is the last version that can be used with the FVS Suppose (legacy) workflow that is no longer supported by the Forest Service, but still in use by some analysts. Outside of the Forest Service, version 5.8.10 relies on ORACLE Express edition for calculating tree volume and biomass. On Forest Service computers, it relies on ORACLE Server on the Forest Service network. We are no longer able to provide support for either of these calculation pathways, so encourage users to upgrade any projects that pre-date BioSum version 5.10.1 to version 5.10.1, which is supported. The process described here is designed to allow for smooth upgrading of BioSum projects, version by version.

Since version 5.7.6, BioSum supports upgrading existing projects from only the most recent previous version. Thus, if you have a project in 5.7.9, you will first need to open it in v5.8.0 and save the project, then close that version of BioSum, restart that version of BioSum (5.8.0 in this case) and save it again, then close BioSum, before moving on to repeat this for each subsequent version. Only in this way can you be sure that the project is properly updated to new data structures that ensure compatibility. After migrating the project to 5.8.0, you would then repeat this process for v5.8.1, then v5.8.4 (there is no version 5.8.2 or 5.8.3). If you are unsure what version your project is at, check the application.version text file in the root of the project folder. Note that as you climb the "stairstep" from the old version to the current version, you will need to open and save the project TWICE in each version.

Note that with version 5.8.8, there is no need to first load a legacy 5.8.6 project into 5.8.7, as that was an interim version. A 5.8.6 project can be migrated to 5.8.8 by simply opening it and saving it in 5.8.8 (twice). Note also that there was a platform change at v5.8.9 from 32 to 64 bit so upgrading through these versions will either require several computers or creative MS Access installations

Version Notes
BioSum 5.9.0 Both the first version that removes Oracle dependencies for all users and the first release compatible with FVS Online.
BioSum 5.8.10 Requires 64-bit SQLite ODBC driver. USFS computers require a JDK and 4 FICS components. Non-USFS computers use Oracle XE and the FCS schema. The last version compatible with FVS Suppose.
BioSum 5.8.9 The first 64-bit version of BioSum. Requires 64-bit versions of all supporting software. Computers running this version of BioSum cannot run older versions. Compatible with projects at v5.8.6 or later.
BioSum 5.8.8 Projects on v5.8.6 or v5.8.7 can be upgraded to v5.8.8.
BioSum 5.8.7
BioSum 5.8.6
BioSum 5.8.5
BioSum 5.8.4 Projects created prior to v5.8.4 are NOT compatible with this version of BioSum, due to changes in FVS data processing. It IS possible to run the Processor and Core modules from older projects.

The versions below are quite old and posted for archival purposes. Please contact BioSum support if your project is at one of these versions.
